Practising Good Dental Hygiene Every Day

Everyone likes to think their dental health is in good condition. However, many people may be unaware that their teeth aren’t in their best condition. It takes a lot more than just brushing your teeth every day. Your teeth require constant and precise care so they look clean and white, and fight against diseases. Even though dental health needs to be regularly maintained, it’s not as hard or strenuous as you may think. Follow these simple methods for strong and healthy teeth.

Brush Your Teeth. Properly.

This may be the easiest task to clean your teeth, but often it is not done properly. People are often in a rush to get out the door or go to bed that they don’t brush their teeth thoroughly. They also don’t brush for long enough, or sometimes not at all. This can cause you to miss plaque in some spots, which can lead to gum diseases such as gingivitis.

Make sure you brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes, although it’s ideal that you clean them three times. When you brush, do it slowly and in a circular motion. It’s also important to clean your entire mouth, including your tongue and gums. This will get rid of bacteria that causes bad breath, and keep your teeth in a heavy-duty condition.

Floss

Many people don’t floss at all, and flossing is something that shouldn’t be underestimated. While brushing is great for removing the plaque of the surface of your teeth, it doesn’t usually reach the tight spaces in between them. Flossing not only removes plaque and food remains in hard-to-reach spots, but they promote healthy gums that will fight off diseases. Try to get into the habit of flossing at least once a day, making sure you get to all the gaps between your teeth.

Promote a Healthy Diet

Your diet doesn’t just effect your body health; it also greatly effects your teeth. A certain selection of foods can cause your teeth to decay, resulting in cavities and other tooth related diseases. Eat more foods that are strong in calcium including cheese and yogurt, as well as leafy greens and a selection of fruits that include vitamins and help you produce saliva. You should also be drinking more water rather than coffee, soft drinks and alcohol, all of which have negative effects on your dental health.

Use Mouthwash

Mouthwash is suitable for those, such as children and the elderly, who have trouble with cleaning their teeth. It helps access tight-to-reach places, removes acid and helps your teeth’s healing process. Some brands of mouthwash are more effective for you than others, especially if you have sensitive teeth. Consult your dentist so they can recommend the right brand of mouthwash for you. Rinsing your mouth out with water is also a simple method of getting rid of excess acid and food remains in between meals, however they shouldn’t replace mouthwash all together.

Have Regular Dentist Appointments

You should make regular trips to your dentist several times a year. They will be able to spot problems in areas you aren’t able to access, and give you can expert advice on comprehensive dental care. Your dentist will also be able to treat more complicated problems such as crookedness, misalignment and diseases.
